You've decided you want to join the millions who have already started their laser hair removal journey, but you're not sure where to begin? Look no further, we're here to help!
Laser hair removal is life changing. We are yet to meet anybody who has regretted starting their laser hair removal journey and the most common feedback we receive from clients is that they wish they had started it sooner.
Laser hair removal is the only hair removal technique that does not leave you with ingrown hairs or 5 o'clock shadow. Your sessions are super quick, the majority of our clients are in and out of the clinic within 30 minutes. Initially, your sessions are spaced 6 weeks apart. 80% of our clients do not need to shave in between their sessions after their 3rd visit.
If you have landed on our website, the chances are you have checked out a few others too! And that in itself is a minefield. What on earth is a diode, Nd: YAG, IPL?! What do these acronyms mean? Which is most suitable for me?! Do I need 6 sessions or do I need 10? Why do so many clinics not display their costs clearly on their website?
We want to give our clients complete transparency. Here we will give you a guide to laser hair removal and some knowledge about what to expect during your upcoming laser hair removal journey. If you have any unanswered questions after reading this that have not yet been answered on the FAQ page, please pop us a message and we will get back to you.
Diode Laser - At Luna Laser Clinic we use the outstanding Elysion Pro diode laser. A diode laser uses a light beam with a narrow focus to target a precise and specific target - in this case, the hair follicle. A diode laser can target both fine and coarse hair unlike the Nd:Yag which does not deliver great results on fine hair. Diode laser treatments are super quick too, they take a third of the time than IPL treatments and require far fewer sessions than IPL meaning that the results appear much more quickly. A diode laser can safely treat all skin types and colours (see Fitzpatrick paragraph below for more info on this).
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light Therapy) - IPL is a much less effective treatment for reducing body hair. IPL lasers should be saved for treating issues such as skin redness, age spots and thread veins. IPL is associated with much higher levels of discomfort and reports suggest it is 60% more painful than a diode laser (which is virtually pain free!). IPL works with a weaker, scattered light and has far less precision than a diode laser. For these reasons alone, it is extremely common to require a lot more treatments to gain your desired end result. IPL cannot be used on anyone with a skin type of 5 or 6 as it is likely to cause burns and permanent scarring due to the pigment in the skin absorbing the energy emitted by the scattered light.
Nd:Yag (Neodymium-doped Yttrium aluminium garnet) - ND:YAG relies on the use of a neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet crystal that produces 2 different wavelengths. The higher wavelength is effective for treating dense hair, the lower wavelength is used to treat fine hair however, it is well known that the results from a Nd:Yag are extremely poor on fine hair (your hair towards the end of your laser hair journey). It also requires a lot of sessions to achieve a result.
Our machine is kind of a big deal! One of the reasons you may be looking to start your journey with us is because you have heard amazing things about the Elysion Pro! We feel super lucky that we have managed to get our hands on one - they are few and far between in the UK!
So, why did we pick the Elysion Pro? To start, the treatment is completely pain free! With Elysions patented 'cool freeze' technology you will feel comfortable throughout your treatment. Many clients describe the feeling during the treatment as a light elastic band flicking sensation against their skin. It is super safe with little to no side effects or risk. It holds medical CE certification and is medically approved. The results are outstanding!
What is The Fitzpatrick Scale and why is it so important in the world of laser?
The Fitzpatrick Scale was developed in 1975 by an American dermatologist named Thomas Fitzpatrick as a way to identify the amount of pigment in a persons skin and determine how their skin would react to sun exposure.
During your consultation, we will ask you a series of questions to determine your Fitzpatrick Score. This, along with our industry knowledge will aid us when selecting what settings we will treat you on.
Our Elysion Pro Diode laser is safe to treat all skin types and colours unlike an IPL device that would burn darker skin tones and potentially lead to a loss of pigment in the skin.
There are a number of factors that can impact your results or the frequency that you may require treatments. These include genetics, hormones and pre/post treatment care.
It is important you are open and honest with your clinician about any medication you are on, any sun exposure you have had, if you are trying for a baby, are taking part in any fertility treatments or if you suffer from any hormone related issues ie PCOS so that the clinican can manage your expectations accordingly.
The results from laser hair removal for somebody living with PCOS is absolutely outstanding. Do not feel embarrassed to discuss any hair related issues you have. We have seen it all before and are here to help you!
Our clients will agree, the results from laser hair removal on your intimate area is unbelievable! No more ingrown hair, shaving rash or irritation - just silky smooth skin! We understand it can be daunting having hair removal procedures carried out on your intimate area, so we have created a quick guide for your treatment below.
Which 'hairstyle' shall I go for?!
Some people like it all off. Some people like to tidy up the 'edges'. There is no right or wrong choice, it's simply down to your preference. We get frequent questions from ladies who aren't sure whether to go for Hollywood or Brazilian so we always advise, if you can't decide, go Brazilian! With laser hair removal you can always take extra off but you can‘t grow extra back!
What will I be wearing when you carry out the treatment?
We will work with you to ensure you feel comfortable during your intimate laser hair removal. Some ladies don't mind baring all when being treated and others prefer a bit of privacy,
If you opt for a Bikini or Brazilian, please wear a light coloured thong to your appointment. If you are having a Hollywood treatment you can move your thong to the side or we can cover your intimate area with a paper towel as much as possible whilst carrying out the treatment. Do not feel embarrassed! We see vulva's of all shapes, sizes and colours day in, day out! We have so much pride in our work and want our clients to love their journey and result. Your treatment will always be treated with the upmost confidentiality.
What if I am on my period when I am due to have my treatment?
Due to increased sensitivity of that area during your time of month, we advise you reschedule your appointment.
